yellowtail mangrove bite on the reef KCB

Will be down in Key Colony Beach in 2 weeks looking for some reports on the reef from anyone that has been down recently or any of the locals that would like to jump in and give me a heads up last year I found more action on the mangroves back in the bay don't know if they were done with the spawn or they were resident fish that are back there all the time thanks.

Went out two days so far, both off little torch:
day 1- Limited out on mangroves and yellowtails, all mangroves that you could want 16"+ and yellowtail got up to 24" about 75'
day 2- Only found mangroves but went closer to the crowd, about 65' and if you can't catch mangroves on the reef right now... well ya need help :shrug
Just find a mark or go close to the crowd, anyone can limit out on mangroves, the trick is to fill the rest of your snapper limit with tails/ a few muttons if ya can. Also, for gogs, which you will most certainly find, put a very small long shank hair hook with a small piece of anything and free line it. No bikis needed. Put two dozen in the well and put them into a pen in our very horribly circulated canal and ended up killing every single one :banghead oh well, great fresh dead too, going out possibly tomorrow, if this tropical storm bs blows over, if not the next day. Keeping my eye on this thread, if more people can contribute that would be great :thumbsup
    Good Luck!

It's the nighttime bite that he's talking about. With so little current and the files so heavy the nighttime bite is the best way to fish the reef for us right now. Doesn't really start until 11ish. But 11-1am is a blast! Mangrove spawn should hold through the next full moon. Lots of people have their spots. But just look for the fleet, wait until the magic hour, drop a bait down to the bottom on a knocker rig. Within a few seconds... tap, tap, tap - boom. Catch em up!

the question is are the mangroves out that deep and how do you prove that when you get stopped especially in KCB

Drive straight back to house. Don't stop on way and tell the warden where you caught them.

    Show them on your GPS

that is correct your GPS is your guide. it will show where you were anchored. and just go straight back to the dock. you will have no problem. And just to confirm your three miles off shore take your cursor to the nearest landmark and it will tell you you are three miles in or out.
