Neat little trip to check on things in woods...

So, on Thursday I tried to hang a couple cameras. Unfortunately, I managed to lose an SD card between the hose and the woods. Figured I'd go out today during this soggy weather to hang the second one and check the other one. Nothing worth reporting on the functioning camera. Quite a few does hitting plot hard. What's strange is that I usually have all bucks this time of year at that end of property and zero does. Not this year. We'll see what happens over the next few weeks.

Scattered some corn on a trail back in woods and hung a camera on it. Dying to see who all is walking around this year.

Did find one thing interesting. I put 4-5 handfuls of corn in food plot with camera on it last Thursday. Showed up today and tracks all over the corn and ALL the corn still there. They prefer the peas to corn. Great news, but they are hitting it really hard. Think I need to hit them with milorganite once more.

Also found two active gopher tortoise burrows. Kinda neat.

Before leaving I walked all the way to one end of what I've planted. I had not done this yet. Oddly enough, the sunflowers did pretty well in this one little area. I thought they made a pretty neat picture with the dark cloud backdrop as that storm rolled through.

I've never been able to get peas established. The deer always eat them too fast. I've also never had luck bribing them with corn. As you've noted, they'll always prefer the frest pea shoots to corn.

Pan - Your pup has grown up. Love the brindle color. I'm often torn between a true hunting dog that disappears (often)and a typical non-hunting breed that just likes my company. I've had both along the way. Currently dogless ;(

Surprised the SF made. Deer usually eat the green flower pod. Looking good Blair :beer

Nice looking stand of Pinus palustris! Consider planting some Chufas also. Deer quickly learn to paw the root out of the ground and really relish 'em just like turkeys do! Really great to see active gopher burrows like you have! Hope you can keep the GD sand ridge rednecks from messing with 'em! Is this your place or do you lease it? Where is it relative to where highway 20 crosses 231? Anywhere in that area?

These burrows are safe and sound from folks. Just 40 acres (940 yards x 220) that I have access to, but thanks to surrounding land owner and respectful hunters who they lease to, it hunts a lot bigger and I'm always able to take a few deer off it each year. Very fortunate to have it. Close to house but secluded and tons of life.... if it exists in Florida I've seen it here.

He's been a good boy so far. I'm not convinced that hhe won't trail a shot deer. I've never seen a boxer with a sniffer like his. I can unwrap frozen venison cuts downstairs while he's asleep upstairs and within a few minutes I'll hear him leap out of bed and come tumbling down the stairs for a treat. Obviously he's a short muzzled dog and not made for it, but i think he might surprise me in a pinch. Biggest road block would be his ADD personality.

Milorganite is all I can figure. I hope to scatter some more this Sunday. They really started hitting it hard pat 10 days or so. At just let them continue, though... I don't know. Or do one plot and not the other. Want them to eat it this time year, but would be nice for peas to make all the way to pods.
