Alligators

Anyone noticed that the alligators are a little too friendly this year.

I fish in and around the Everglades at the Alley etc and have experienced way too many "friendly" alligators this year.
Even to the point where a couple have nudged the boat.

Ann on some cases there have been so many that it has interrupted fishing as they are chasing everything that splashes.

I know it's mating season but this year just seems different.

    Low water has condensed them.

I started a thread about this very thing on another forum about a month ago. There everywhere around here. Had to stop fishing this morning in my back yard because after about a dozen or so cast with a top water one came swimming up and I didn't' feel like loosing a lure so I just stopped. It seems the top water draw them in more then a worm or crank bait. I bass fish from shore so I keep a sharp eye out whenever I anywhere near the water. I did happen to walk up in one a few weeks ago. It was hiding in the cat tails and I didn't't see it but it saw me and QUICKLY turned tail and took off into the cat tails. Scared the crap out of me...and by the way, this is a small lake in the middle of town near a park where people bring their dogs! They really are getting out of control around here.

I had to nudge one with my paddle one day while in my kayak. It was swimming at me with it's mouth open.

If theres that many it sounds like FWC needs to declare them double-endangered and close the season entirely, until the numbers bounce back.

We do a lot of diving operations in the Everglades. You can always tell when an area needs to be opened for a gator hunt! And the second easiest thing to tell is when humans have been feeding gators. Those are the ones we worry about,

Yes I am concerned that someone has been feeding them. Noticed a few commercial airboats give tourists a tour. Wonder if they feed them to give the clients a good viewing?

I've often wondered about gators bothering guys in kayaks.

Please don't, this would seem logical to FWC..

While I was fishin a few weeks ago. I had 4 gators trail me (5 to 8 footers) all 4 followed me around the lake. They trailed more than a mile around the lake.

3 came completely 0ut of the water to try an get my fish

Finally I decided it wasn't worth the risk. I walked back around the Lake.
I made the famous 1 Last cast. Caught a small bass, tossed it back into the water.
when a 10 footer exploded out of the water.
I never saw the 10ft gator. It happened so fast it took me 1.1 seconds to process what was going on.
    I ran up the bank.
The gator jus kept coming it ran after me a good 50ft
I've bass fished in Florida for 38 years.
I've had gators follow me before. A gator that swims to you has lost it's natural fear of humans.
    (I jus leave the area)
this was a Residential lake I called FWC Who called a trapper
They got 3 of 4 gators the trapper came back 3 times but couldn't find the 10ft gator

this is the 8 footer he caught

I was sad to find this yesterday
I couldn't tell if someone had intentionally Netted the gator
Or if the gator got tangled up in the Net an drown
I guess someone stuck the that stick in it's mouth
It had been dead at least a few days
I called FWC they weren't concerned
    Gator tail anyone it's fresh
    An stinky

the picture makes the gator look like it's alive

It wasn't the blizzards started on it before I left
