Because of my experience with back injury, ,, several folks have asked advice and have compared experiences with me. The thing I tell them all is to avoid the pain meds at all cost. I just do not understand how seemingly intelligent people find themselves so easily swept up in their maelstrom.

I belive a lot of people become dependent when their doctor gets paid by major drug companies to continue to write prescriptions for certain pain relieving drugs.
There are few people who have had as much or more pain to deal with as a result of a back injury as I have. I could pick up my phone and call any number of DRs who have or are treating me and be prescribed a myriad of pain medications. From the day I first left the hospital after my accident I have foregone whatever they prescribed me. Pain is just a thing. You learn to live with it and refuse to allow it to rule or limit your life. I know individuals who have had what I consider minor back injuries and procedures and are now enslaved to opioid addiction. I have very little pity for them because they and most everyone else know the risks and CHOSE to trade pain relief for life altering addiction. I live and work a normal life now. I hurt each and every day but I deal with it. It is maddening to listen to people with such trivial issues claim they cannot function without the pills.

Theyre the reason the entire country has an opioid problem. I have Tricare and it makes me sick to my stomach they'll pay for a muscle relaxer or vicodin but will not cover a visit to a chiropractor. Its disgusting

Most people will follow their doctors instructions and take drugs that are prescribed to them. Some people take drugs that are are not prescribed.
