BBI 5/27 - mahi and triple tail

Ran deep at first light looking for mahi. Had live gogs, sardines, and rigged ballyhoo. Went 25 miles out...stopped at a few slicks and scattered weed and trolled for a bit. Nada. Even put a few livies out and chummed hoping to bring in the school. Nothing.

Decided to head back in to the reef and drift or bump troll. About 18 miles out on the way in we came across a wood pallet. Put out 2 ballyhoo and immediately had a double. Put out another couple ballyhoo and caught another. We then left one in the water and chunked and threw out livies...no more friends with him which was strange. Went right up to the pallet and caught the 2 triple tail hanging on it. Both were legal as well as all the mahi. Biggest mahi was around 12 pounds. Headed in and stopped at a few other weed lines but nada. Back at the marina at noon.

How did everyone else do today?

Out of Boynton as well this morning. 3 bonita on the reef at first hour of light. Then ran off and found scattered weed in 500ft, got one 10# fin there, then after 20 min nothing else, went out to 650 and found another patch and had a triple but shook one off . Those 2 were slinger size , borderline gaffers. Then ran out to 1100ft. Quickly to make a uturn and stopped back at 500ft and got a 6# BFT. Had to be in early for my sons hockey tournament. Back at dock at 10am

Solid day. Scattered weed and scattered mahi. IMO we need 3-4 straight days of a light east wind to pack the weeds together.
