Just one fly!

BigVernBigVern Posts: 217 Deckhand
Hi. Apologies in advance if this has appeared before!

I was talking to a ghillie who said we get caught up with fly patterns and would do better fishing one pattern, in a variety of styles, all year.

It got me thinking, before I hit the vice, do I really need to tie lots of different patterns? Bear with me!

I am intrigued to know if you were limited to just onefly(which can be tweaked!)to have with you, in the salt, regardless of species, what would you use and why?

Tight lines

Vern.

EP Everglades special in different sizes. Every predatory fish I know of eats it. Have caught everything from bass to tarpon to reds to trout on it.

BV I'm a big fan of the Clouser Minnow Pink over Chartreuse or both over white

I really like EP fibers but not that experienced on the bench w/ Everglades Special : NoreastSalt3295 I know what it is but the color you choose is it the traditional even for beach or would you select a different color ? thanks

I prefer white on the beaches but I've had good luck with the smaller versions of the Everglades special on the beaches. It's also basically the only fly I throw at micro poons, they'll eat that tiny thing even when they won't touch anything else. Have had many days where I show up and there's 3 guys throwing the kitchen sink not getting a hit and within 3 casts I'm hooked up.

Thanks for the responses so far! The ep Everglades special does look good! Do you make it all white or a subtle pale shade over the top of the white?

    Thanks again.
