Sarasota Bay; 4/27

Now that the snowbirds are gone I now have time to fish (haven't been out since November). Hopefully I'll be out ever Thursday until November.

Put in at 10th street at 6:00 am. Very slow start, however it included a trout over 20" and one 19 31/32":wink. Both were hooked deep on swim baits so I kept them.

I moved to water that I've never fished before. Had a nice wind from the South and drifted a long West side mangrove bank. Had a couple decent snook on and measured one at 27". Also had a few chases to the boat.

Threw into a spooked bait fish pod, got hit hard and lost a spoon on 25 lb. leader. A few more trout.

Lunch, a hamburger and beer.

Drifted the mangroves where I left off. A nice red fish, completing the inshore slam. A few more trout.

Pulled out at 3:00 pm.

Not a bad day. I'm looking forward to returning to the new water I fished. Hopefully I can work it with early morning top waters next time.

Nice job! Did you run into the black snot grass where you were fishing?

Yes to snot grass but only on the more open water. Along the mangrove line it was clear early and muddied later.

Nice, well done. Any idea what broke your leader? I didn't know if it was a clean cut from a spanish/shark or if it break from size.

I don't know what broke the leader. There was a school of bait fish apparently being chased onto a point. I threw into it and seemed to get cut off after feeling a hard hit. Fish never ran, too quick of an event.

Always interesting when that happens. Sounds potentially like a toothy creature.
