25 Jan 2017...Wabasso South. Good, bad day. Started at Pine Island, nice clear day. First fish of the day, an 18 “ Blue. Jacks were next on the agenda. As I cleared the cut the fog bank rolled in from the West. Idle speed to Hobart Landing. Managed a pair of barely legal Trout, One mid slot Trout, a 19 inch Ladyfish and more Jacks. Two boats came into the area, love it when they get to watch. Idled to the southern tip of Pine Island, no hits, watched a Gator Trout easing down the edge. Would not hit. Moved to the spoil islands, nothing. Loggerheads Channel was dead. Had a boat come in and start fishing, too close. Exit for the sunken islands. Not too bad of a choice, pair of 17 inch Trout on the Matrix Shad. A pair of Reds waked up on the Zombie Ghost Walker. Just would not hit. Next stop, the Estuary. The flat was alive with Bonnethead Sharks, counted 12. They would not hit anything. On to the Tween area. Again, it was loaded with Jacks and short Snook. Had a little tap, easy push down on the rod, the water exploded, an over slot Snook. Two good runs and the hook pulled out, big fish are hard to hold on the Baby Vudu Shrimp. At the Culvert, Mullet stacked up, nothing bothering them. Worked the Mangrove edge and got two more mid slot Trout. In the ditch, a 17 inch Blue, a mid slot Trout and the real bad part of the day. Hooked and lost a Gator Trout, easy seven. Saw a few Sheepies on the flats, but no players. Decided to work one of the flats. Before the freeze, it was common the land 1 or 2 big Snook a day. Not happening today, boated a 21 inch Ladyfish and jumped off a few more. Head for home, a quick stop at Hobart. Still stacked with Ladyfish. All players released for future encounters.
