Sarasota offshore 12/26

Hit the inlet about 20min before sunrise and ran out to 110ft. Found a good show and tried to anchor on it. Dropped baits while the anchor came tight abs immediately slammed. 1 29" red and my buddy got rocked. Anchor swung too much and missed the spot. Tried anchoring twice more and could not hit the spot. Never had that problem before. Too rough to drift effectively. After we left the area I realized I was using my compass (magnetic north) to get my bearing, and my GPS (true north) to get my heading and set the anchor. Lesson learned. Lost 2 nice fish in 100 ft, caught a nice mango and some 14-15" lanes to keep.
It was pretty rough in the mid morning, but calmed down after noon. Wish this upcoming weekends forecast was better.

Sounds like you boys got enough for dinner. I agree with ya on the weather... Supposed to start blowing 25-30 knots tonight....
