I was sitting in a small restaurant eating my grits this morning.

Were they instant or did you wait 15 minutes?

    Ever eaten a sandwich?

    Bread also tastes plain.

There are other foods besides potatoes and barley.

You must be kidding - you still buying processed white?

Yeah, but you guys aren't actually eating and tasting grits now are you. You're tasting all that stuff you put on it.

    Like BBQ sauce.

I can eat just plain grits with a little salt and butter, delicious!

Do you eat your rice without any salt or butter? Do you eat potatoes without salt and butter?

My girlfriend worked in a receiving gate where truck drivers had to check in....told about a couple of instances of having to go outside and throw up when the drivers came in stinking like forty hells.

    Why would you assume that?

Lucky you're like 98 years old and can get away with it.

I will say, you're shrimp and grits sounds mighty tasty though.

I like all grits....EXCEPT INSTANT!, but recently have come to prefer yellow corn grits. More flavor and texture, IMO.

I agree on the yellow grits and for the same reason.

The best piece of blackened fish I have ever eaten was at a restaurant in St. Augustine and was served atop a large serving of datil pepper cheese grits. The fish, and the grits, were top shelf.

My guess is he never had real grits, just some instant stuff at a chain restaurant.

One of my favorite places to eat in Gainesville is a place I don't order grits because he uses instant.

Not sure why the allusions to the woman being black.... my experiences with too much yucky perfume has been on older white women. I don't know why they wear it so heavy. Ever go into an elevator and wish you could crawl out thru the roof hatch because an older woman go on wearing too much perfume? And, there's one in particular my MIL wears that is so obnoxious. I don't know what it is, but my wife finally had to say something to her earlier this year.

Just to point out that, with these posts, you are actually agreeing with me that grits are tasteless.

    Carry on.

Grits aren't tasteless. A little butter and salt enhances their flavor, like catsup on a burger.

I like to mix an over easy egg with grits on top of that.

Not me. I just asked if you eat your flavorful bread straight from the package. Putting something on something does not mean it has no flavor.

Grits, like rice, potatoes and a lot of other food has a mild flavor that is enhanced with a little butter and salt. Also, you claim that we eat it for the other food flavor, but the fact is, it makes the other food taste better. Shrimp and fish are great with grits.

....and though some schmarty-pantzes might disagree.....

Nothin better for babies than grits...mixed in with a little milk and sugar babies love the hell out of it and it acts as a base for adding other stuff like really mashed up meat and veggies that when it hits the kids mouth doesn't make them wanna spit it out.
