Creeks or Flats?

I have my Bro-in-law coming to town for Thanksgiving and we plan to put a couple of days in on the water while he is here. The latest cold snap has me a little puzzled on the fish locations. Normally, we would have had a couple of cold snaps by now so fishing the creeks around Suwannee was the plan. Now I'm not so sure. All of y'alls reports (thanks Jim311 et al) have me thinking the trout are still on flats. We are planning to fish either Cedar Key or Suwannee and I guess we could hit Suwannee on Tues. then CK on Wed. I'm just trying to narrow down a plan and help get my guest on some fish. I know these areas pretty well but if anyone has any other suggestions, IE, Steinhatchee, I'm open to any/all suggestions. Thank you in advance, cold ones on me.

Want to just get "something"? Or is Spotted Sea Trout your "target"?

Kinda sorta depends on what kind of watercraft you're in, where you practically and realistically can and can't should/shouldn't go.

Check the tides (before Thanksgiving, early to mid afternoon area low tide). Watch up-to-the-minute marine/weather forecasts.

We fished Saturday. We tried up in the creeks and the mouths, not bad, but not on fire. Fish were in the creekmouths on the last of the outgoing. 6 slot reds and 6 slot trout before 11, until the tide went slack. Good luck

Thank you all for the info. Navigator, I replied to your pm. Yak, I'm in a 17' boat and I know the area well. Been fishing this area for 15 years or so. Trout and reds are the target species. We will try to work in some creeks just to see how this cold snap may have changed things and then work the mouths at the bottom of the tide. I'll give up a report if we find some. Thanks again.

    Then why are you asking?

Because I have not been on the water in a while and this immediate weather change might make the fish change environs. Just looking for some simple advice. If that is too tough for you to understand, I'm sorry to have wasted your time. My apologies to you. Don't you have fishing report to derail?

Dawg, Yak means well but I think but he's got the bedside manner of a PCP from the streets of Calcutta.

I'm in complete agreement with him on the FWC debacle on their FUBARing our redfishery in the Big Bend. Politics even in fishing make for strange bedfellows. :grin

This time of year the weather can change everything on a dime's turn. But you got factual info from me. :beer

That guy is the biggest troll on this forum. I've ignored him and can't read his posts, I'd advise you to do
The same. The guy has no friends to fish with and hardly catches anything soaking baits in creeks. He has a terrible attitude and believes he is always right. And he will cut and past endless amounts of irrelevant info that doesn't support his thought. This place was better without him and I hope he goes away. Most of the regulars on here have used the ignore function to not to have to see his garbage posts. When enough people ignore him or stop feeding the troll he will go away. Good luck

Yep. I have no idea what he said since I use the ignore function.

Makes the forum a better read in the morning.

You give a lot of great advice on this forum, but for me, the best advice was the use of the ignore function. I was unaware of it until you mentioned it a few weeks back. Thanks again

Thanks guys, but I have read too much of his garbage. Ignore function? Sounds too good to be true but I will search the ends of this forum to find it. To all, I've posted a report for today. Heading to CK tomorrow. Will post that also. Thanks again for the tips.

HOT ****! The ignore list does exist!! No more YAK crap!!!

Lots of "ignore" banter, but...not being ignored.

RD, how did your trip go? One brother of mine was down there Monday-Wed, said the outer bars shut down like a light switch with the dip in temps. Friday I took another brother of mine and we went way way back. We ripped them a new ****, was arguably the best day of inshore fishing I can remember. We caught and released (not all) about 30 upper slot reds. Saturday that all changed again with another front moving in. Slow that day, but we caught 3 26 inchers in a couple of hours and called it quits to head back and watch feetsball. I was shot from Friday. Anyway, hope you got em because Friday was off the chain.

The Wed. before Thanksgiving at CK was pretty weather and a bunch of short fish. Not one keeper in the box. Fished ALL the islands and hit a flat or two in between. The cold snap definitely shut down the outside bars and some fished sneaked into the creeks. By now, no telling where they are with this current warm spell but I suspect the reds are up in the creeks and the trout are dazed and confused. It will be a week or two before I can get back on the water. Hopefully the weather will become more consistent, one way or the other.

I think the reds are now in the creeks in solid numbers but the trout left since the water is so warm. Mine read 72 degrees Tuesday in a creek.
