Drifted and flatlined Gogs, Cigar Minnows and Pilchards off Hillsboro Saturday morning. From 7:00 - 8:30 the bite seemed nonexistent and it didn't seem like a good start to the good day. Finally had something come up on our Gog on the long kite bait and somehow cut us off above the wire :huh then not a minute later we had our first Sail engulf the short bait. It looked like it would of been the biggest of the day and it took off did one jump and spit the hook. We reset for another drift and this time had a Sail on the flat line. Released. Reset again and another Sail hits a cigar minnow from the kite. Got another release on that one as well. While fighting that Sail a small King was caught on a Pilchard and released off the weighted flat line. Decided to do one last final drift and nailed another Sail and another small King - both on the flat lines.
Ended up going 3/4 on Sails and releasing some of the smallest Kings I've seen. The magic depth seemed to be about 150' - 200'. Got no bites shallower or deeper than that. Sails were eating the Gogs and Cigar Minnows. Always makes me smile a little when were headed back into the inlet and see the big sport fish boats flying only 1-2 Sail flags - knowing that we "beat" them in our 23' CC :grin

Good to finally see a report out of Hillsboro...
I was 1/1 last week solo in my 17ft - my buddy overslept.
Nice job.
