Mahi Mahi this year in the Keys?

Hi,

I´m from Germany and I come once a year for fishing into the Keys since 2010. This year in June the fishing was really bad. In 9 boat days less than 10 mahi.

I talked to other fishermen. They have had all the same bad results.

I read all the reports here in the forum and since then I found very rare mahi reports.

My skills for trolling are getting better (imho), but the results are going down.

What´s going on with the mahi? What´s your expirience or opinion about the mahi fishing this year? Any similar expirience?

When Mahi filets are selling for $3.00 lb wholesale it's a good indicator of what's happening to the resource. There isn't a restaurant anywhere that doesn't have Mahi on the menu. Doesn't take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

The FL coastline can yield mahi anytime of the year. Frankly the Keys were hard hit this past year generally speaking although there were some decent days. I think the SE FL coastline had a much better season compared to the Keys, not sure why. Spring was very good and some of the last few months or so has been good except for the windy weather. I had much better luck fishing for grouper, snapper and lobster in the Keys though. So hard to say why but that is fishing, some days are better than others.

it was a very slow year but a month ago my wife and I were running in 45 feet of water just west of the Spiegel Grove and a huge bait school jumped followed by a huge school of nice sized mahi chasing them....again, in 45 feet of water in Key Largo....thought about chasing them but they were moving really fast and disappeared quickly...
