Anyone here have any experience with a finish or rough cut pull behind mower? I'm looking to get one to mow 3 acres that used to be horse pasture, no more horses and the grass is growing like crazy. Are they worth the investment?

Do you want a self powered rotary cutter or one that works off a pto?

I have a bush hog and I get a real nice cut with it.

Guy down the road uses 2 of them at once. The mowers are are staggered so he cuts about 8' with every pass. He pulls them with a golf cart.
I would think that how the mower is hitched would make a big difference in how effective it could be. A rigid, swiveling hitch would allow you to cut forward and backwards. This would make your turns more efficient as well.
Cutting around obstacles may be difficult as your turning radius is going to be large, making the ability to back up a real asset.
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon... No matter how good you are, the bird is going to crap on the board and strut around like it won anyway. I AM NOT A RACIST
I had 6 acres and mowed about 5 of those.....even though I had a small tractor, and a finish mower....I didn't like the way it looked a day later. Your tractor tires would lay the grass down and you'd have little "corn rows" once the dew hit it next day and they stood up.
I was cuttin' Bahaia.....and it grows like crazy, with little shoots on top of the grass. Grazing animals love it.
The best solution we came up with as far as cutting it was, we used two ride on yard tractors....John Deere 48 inch cut and an old Snapper 42 inch.....myself and the wife would hop on and each do half and we'd get done in a couple hours or so.
When done, ours would look like a golf course....
An even better solution ( but I didn't have the $$$ to drop on one ) would be a big commercial zero turn mower, of 48 to 60 inch cut spread....
Plan on only mowing every two to three weeks. The horse and two miniature donkeys kept it pretty well eaten. I have thought about the sheep but that defeats the purpose of getting rid of the animals.

I've never used one of those.
Rent one and see how good it works for you.
Same here, rent one if they're available
