Their two most important jobs to us as anglers....predicting the weather and accurate and fair allocation of fish stocks.

They suck like a Hoover vacuum at both.

Was out last Sunday, in 2-4 slop, quite unlike the predicted "less than 2 feet", couldn't catch anything but red snapper. They were everywhere from 45' out. Maybe even closer but we didn't stop there.

How do they still have jobs?? Oh that's right, they work for the government.

It is unconscionable that I , as a resident of Florida, cannot keep a single fish for the table while some commercial scumbag can sell thousands of pounds to the highest bidder.

POS. Every effing one of them. Useless POS. It's pitchfork time....

It's exciting really. When I go fishing, I have no idea who will stop and ask those tough questions like "show me your life jackets and fire extinguisher". or, "how many fish do you have" It might be:

    State game wardens
    federal game wardens
    US Customs
Texas highway patrol (yes, they have boats and pull us over now)
Federal park rangers from Padre Island National Seashore
    US Coast Guard
    NOAA

clearly we need multiple agencies to overlap and provide redundant services to the american people.

Same thing in the Keys, every wanna-be-on-the-water agency has some excuse that only they can justify for the allocation of funds to buy their toys and spend our tax dollars. After many, many years of keys trips I'm done. Last year instead of the keys, I packed up the family and went to Central America. Flew, stayed, fished, surfed, ate better, no crowds, no traffic, no wanna-be-agencies, and no hassles. No thieves, civilian or government. Not one single anybody ever approached us for anything but to offer us a cold drink and they were very grateful to have our company and business. We stayed for 2 weeks. All in, it cost a little less than 1 short week in the keys. Guess where we'll be going for our future vacations? I'm not tellin' either.

I used to visit the keys every year. Im done. The trip sucks, no fish, expensive, people and traffic everywhere. When I go on vacation I go to the Bahamas. Cheaper and way more relaxing

government could not even open the doors to their offices on time. something as easy as this is beyond their capability. don't expect anything better. As we keep electing them, so lets not expect anything different.

Good idea. Keys are fished out and too crowded with weekenders.

And you can't run your boat in a straight line for 5 seconds without getting tangled up in a #*&%!! trap!

I agree with the fish management, it really is sad. But I am pretty sure that most of the actual workers are just ordinary people like you and me who do not approve of a lot of these laws as well. It's the higher power that our fight should be with, guarantee that even the government people on the lower ladders would be with us!

Yep, I should have gotten a government job I'd be retired by now, sucking up a great pension all the while complaining about how tough I have it...

I'm in Bay County (Panama City) and we are blessed with frequent stops/safety checks by the Florida Wildlife Commission and the Coast Guard. Sometimes by both on the same day or multiple checks by the same agency and Occasional checks by the Sheriffs Office and Homeland Security. While well equipped and very law abiding recreational fishermen are checked from backwater creeks to 12 miles offshore on a regular basis, our local pass is swarming with Personal Watercraft and out of town tourist traffic that are operating in a reckless and unsafe manner without adult supervision. While I'm on a rant, I might as well complain about the Kayaks in the pass that are nearly invisible, have neutral colors that are very hard to see, and in rough water drop down in the troughs so they can't be seen. I'm on my third Kayak now and love it, but it has no place in a heavily used pass. While I'm for limited government and think we are over regulated, does anyone have any ideas on how to regulate/control unsafe personal watercraft operation and Kayaks on the water in high traffic areas. It took a serious accident and permanent injury to two young ladies to get the Para-Sail business under control. We had one young man killed in a personal water craft accident this year and at least one power boat/Kayak collision this year. Green, Blue and Gray Kayaks just don't stand out and those little triangle Kayak flags are worthless. I think that being required to wear florescent orange vests or life jackets might help a little.

This has been a topic over many a beer. not certain why or where they get there intel from, but most can generally agree (especially the guys out on the water daily) that NOAAA is riddled with in accuracies, a quick google search tells the story.

I feel your pain. The NOAA is just one of many bloated govt. agencies which should be done away with altogether. They are about as useful as a poop-flavored lollipop and worth about as much as Rosie Odonnel's personal trainer.
