Last week down at Fernandina, Nassau County we were looking for pogies off the beach as we always do. In about 15 feet of water, perhaps 200-300 feet off the beach, well outside of the breakers and throwing the cast net. There is a sheriff's deputy in his truck on the beach. He gives a few short blast of his siren and we don't think anything about it. We move on down the beach a little further and he drives down where we are and sounds his siren again and gets out of his truck and starts waiving at us, as if we are too close to the shore. I looked through the FL regs and see nothing about this. Any ideas?

Yes.............google is your friend.:grin
You were probably in violation of one or both of these Nassau County ordinances:
Jet skies or motorized boats shall remain at idle speed until they are at least 500 feet in a straight line from the shore area.
Personal water craft and boats shall be operated or launched no closer than 1,500 feet in either direction of the lifeguard tower.
Found here.........near the end of the list.............http://www.nassaucountyfl.com/index.aspx?NID=474
FishStix, too funny. He seemed way too uptight to be a beer drinker, and I guess unless he is interested in middle aged men with beer bellies, there was no bikini on board!
You're welcome........I was being sarcastic when I said you were in violation of their ordinance.......unless you were a local how would you have ever even heard of it?
Maybe Barney interprets it as if you are within 500ft of shore you need to be making a straight line away from shore, or maybe some beachfront resident called and complained you were blocking their sunrise view with your beer bellies. :rotflmao
