Was fishing the surf last Monday, and was already having a terrific day, landed eight fish up to this point. At the end of a long cast, had a crushing strike on the first strip. A guy up on the jetty yelled, "Dude, that's a big fish!" Into the backing and then the fish just powered down the beach. Put a ton of heat on it, but often still couldn't really move it. When I got it close, it seemed like it just doubled in size. Measured at 42 inches and heavy. Couldn't sleep that night...:)

Amazing photos too!!!!
Do you rig it up like you would for tarpon, just 8-12" of heavy leader between the tippet and fly? Never gone for those big snook before. Incredible catch!

Thanks. Back here in Iowa and for once, thankful to not be in Florida right now. Fishing for muskies and tying to get ready for Great Lakes steelhead season. The fly was a simple olive over white pilchard fly. About 3 1/2 inches, 1/0 hook, using a material called flash n slinky. I usually tie them with pretty big eyes.
