Alive or Artificial?

Good morning everyone! I've been writing a blog for a little over 2 years and even though I don't make a dime, it gives me another outlet when I'm not fishing.
Here is my latest article called Alive or Artificial. I've been kicking around writing a book, so I'd love the feedback - good, bad or indifferent.

Hope all is well!

    OK...but remember..YOU ASKED!

First off, if you enjoy writing...You should do it. As with any "craft"...with time you will get better...more refined..and have a flare or style all your own.

So, You do an article eschewing the plus of using artificials...yet you post

Our 50 trout soaking in an ice chest proved that fishing was more than standing in a line,

So...What is it more than standing in a line? Filling an ice chest? Are you a purist?... or a guy who needs to fill a cooler?

You see how that goes...You are looking down your nose at a "bait" guy...but a C&R guy...will be looking down his nose at your "ice chest" comment...

As for me...I use bait...big mullet if i want to catch big trout. But then again, I release all my trout...I don't even take big breeder girls out of the water...unhook them boatside so they can get back to work making more. But, I am also not looking down my nose at anyone who wants to keep their legal limit here in Fla..
    (LA regs are ridiculous)

And on the the other side...if I want to catch "numbers"...or taking out my granddaughters...a CAL on a jig head will catch the numbers.

    Anyway, Good effort...keep at it.

Beautiful duckman...thank you so much. Trust me I can handle it. The biggest thing I'm trying to do is refine my writing style.
I was blessed to grow up in LA...looking back the limits are ridiculous and my honest opinion is they need to do something about it. The erosion there is incredible. ..most of the spots I fished as a kid are open water now, but the fishing is still better than all the fisheries I've fished in terms of numbers.
Anyway I can go on and on, but I truly appreciate the feedback. I totally see what your saying and will certainly keep that in mind for the next article.

I really don't catch much, but I do like stockpiling gear. Looks good on the walls.

Somehow, I get over it. 3 months on a south American vacation seems to help.

Not to derail the poor OP's thread but...
Pretty funny I have you bird doggin' me over here at E/C now that you got your nutz jammed over in General fishing...

So, What do people in South America think...Tidemaster vs Avid ? :rotflmao

Don't make yourself such an easy target kid.... :wink

I think the article is well written.. I wouldn't say catching a fish on bait is an artificial facade of success.. I've been on many schools of bull reds that were absolutely snubbing plastic, and a follow up with a precisely placed chunk turned into a 30lb fish on deck.. Still a trophy fish, still had to be sighted up, and presented to, and the fight was just the same.. It's always my first choice to try to get them on arti but I have absolutely no shame whatsoever in following up with something natural to avoid a wasted opportunity when it comes to big trophy sized fish.. I will admit though it does feel a lot more satisfying to watch one destroy a piece of plastic but they are not always in that mood..

Now there ARE guys out there who all they do is throw chunks and stick it in a rod holder, post to social media and think they are gods among men.. My grandma could go out and do that.. If that's the only trick up their sleeve, that's absolutely fine, but don't go acting like you're the best fisherman on the water when the only skill involved in that type of fishing is choice of location.. But this debate will always exist.. You'll have arti guys condemning the bait guys, fly guys condemning the arti guys... In my opinion, the well rounded angler is proficient with bait, plastic, and fly.. It's something to strive for anyway..

Make it over here and maybe you'd find out. They're bringing in some nice 18 inch snook everyday that I'm eating on the beach.
