REAL AC QUESTION HERE..

Got a Package unit 3 1/2 ton.
Compressor failed to start about 5 Months ago..Neighbor gave me a Hard Start..all has been good.
Today I came home and it felt like a Miami Nightclub at 3 am , Hot and sweaty..:banana
Is it worth it to replace just the Compressor ?
Unit is 7 years old and all the rest of it is in Fine condition.
a new one is...I'm guessing 4 K to my door , maybe less. I can hook it all up.

I think that most compressors have a 10 year warranty. Hopefully it was registered. Are you sure this problem is the compressor? It might just be a capacitor or something else simple and stupid.

Its worth a check by a reputable company/tech to find out. It could still have a warranty on it
or maybe...As previously noted, it could also be something other than the compressor.

Do you have an amp meter?
    Do you mave a multimeter?
what kind of compressor is it?
Is your duct work in good shape?
How old is the duct and is it under the house?

A capacitor is a $10 part. Mine just went out and my blower unit/compressor wouldn't start without a hard start. Now it works with new capacitor. It is easy to change yourself too - takes 10 min.

I thought my compressor had went out, it turned out to be the fan motor (not the squirrel cage motor). The tech put a new motor in it & it's working like new again.

I had 3- 120 volt window units running for the last 3/mths. They kept this small house cool enough 1150 sq/ft. Our last 2 electric bills were under $100 the other one was $128. It went back up to around $170 running the central unit again.
