Stone Crab

Buddy asked if I wanted to set some recreational pots. I obliged. Here's our first pull:

I don't have measurements of ingredients but used:
-A large pot
-Water
-4 shakes of Old Bay with the large spout open
-Couple dashes of white distilled vinegar

Boiled for 8 minutes; Ice bath for 10 minutes- Kaboom

Sweet... We did OK in Oct./Nov., but since then it's been a big BUST :(
There should be NO Commercial Fishing for any fish species considered 'Over-fished' , 'Undergoing Overfishing' or Subject to Recreational Seasons, Limits, or Closures... Game Fish Status IS the Answer !!!

Those are big claws! I have a few traps out and get Stone Crabs along with Blue Crabs. I think I like the Blue Crabs better!
It's too bad we don't have King Crab in Florida! I'd be trying for them 24 / 7!

Try boiling with Zataran's Crab boil. It's a pouch a little smaller than a bean bag, throw that in the pot with 2 cut lemons, a very small dash of cayanne pepper, some white wine. That's what we used for peel and eat shrimp. Always turns out awesome.

Me too! Had dozens in my dock trap Nov and Dec, went back to NJ for the Holidays, and when I came back caught ONLY TWO more crabs all of Jan, Feb, March and April! What the heck happened?
