FWC conducting boating crackdown this weekend

If you have plans out on the water this weekend, you’ll want to be extra careful.

Starting Friday, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission will take part in the national “Operation Dry Water” campaign.

The three-day event focuses on deterring boaters from boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

With the 4th of July holiday right around the corner, FWC says it is important for people to know that they should not be impaired while operating a boat. Just like driving, boaters must be below the BAC of .08.

“It is our job as law enforcement officers to identify and remove impaired boaters from the water so that everyone else can continue to have an enjoyable boating season and not become a victim of boating under the influence. Protecting the public goes to the heart of our mission,” said Maj. Richard Moore, FWC’s Boating and Waterways Section Leader.

“Our agency is participating in Operation Dry Water, and joining thousands of law enforcement officers nationwide to decrease the number of accidents, injuries and deaths that come as a result of boaters who choose to drink and boat.”

Boaters can expect to see an enhanced law enforcement presence and increased messaging about this dangerous and preventable crime.

The area around Peanut Island and the Jupiter sand bar should be particularly entertaining given the pending crackdown. :grin

What's the over/under for fatalities in the Keys next holiday weekend?

B-b-b-b-b-b-but they used to be favorites to anchor when I lived up there.

Go for a refreshing dip then down into the cuddy for some VERY PLEASANT
    moments.

Good, finally, tax dollars put to good use. I wish the FWC 'Happy Hunting" although "Your papers please" was pretty funny.

Er, uh, . . . I've always said Rivera Beach.

For them there, three syllables is challenging enough without adding a fourth!

    :)

Plus, an arbalete or spring gun will instantly stop any idiots
    trying to come aboard.

Though unfortunately can mess up the deck for awhile.

Hell, I've heard some just resort to "the raw". :)

They increasingly have been trying to do this sort of crack down during the Boca Bash by just waiting at the ramps but you would be surprised at how few of the %100 completely hammered people get in trouble. I would highly recommend bringing some lawn chairs and watching the show, its great entertainment.

This is directly opposite of the best advice my father ever gave me..."When you see stupidity happening get away from it. This has served me well.

Granted that is July 4th but I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 mini season deaths this July.

It won't just be the FWC. You'll see local S.O.'s and city P.D's as well as the Coast Guard all participating. Have fun, just watch for those that have had a lil too much and stay away from them. The last three 4th of July wknds I've worked boating accidents involving either severe injuries or death.

Amateur hour. Like going out on New Year's

Memorial day, the 4th of July, Labor day, all good weekends to be spent AWAY from the water. Springs, beach, fishing, scalloping, lake, whatever.

On those three weekends you can have it. All you.
