Flamingo, 29 October

Did a shortened Saturday charter out of Flamingo for a father and son team (Dad is working the Lauderdale Boat Show and needed to get back early)... Difficult day with a receding front building. We were lucky enough to be off of the water before the bad weather hit. Lots of live bait on board but no joy with them until the afternoon. We did catch and release almost ten small redfish on lures as well as two trout and a couple of snapper. Just before leaving the "rivers" to make the long run back to the ramp we hit one grouper spot and got hammered the moment the bait hit the bottom (right around nine feet of water...). Here's a photo that shows what was there.....

This gag was almost 26" and weighed right at 8lbs on the Boga Grip. A very nice catch on only 15lb line by young Julian Emond. His Dad, Jacques, is with Wellcraft and Four Winns boat companies. That fish was carefully released and I hope to see him again...

For anyone interested I'm seeing reports from areas as far away as Naples on good gag grouper action. Unlike that area all the grouper fishing we're doing out of Flamingo is in rivers that are rarely much deeper than about 12 feet of water.

Flamingo is still the place to be....
