Everytime I go out to my lease I pull about 10 ticks off of me.
I am going to start using some permethrin based repellent. It says to wet down your clothes and then let it dry.
Does this stuff work?
Does it really last for multiple uses?
Even if you wash the clothes?
Also it claims to have no smell but it does have a little chemical odor. Any problem for animals?
Thanks.

That's what I do. I re-do for each quota not each outing. No ticks where before I'd pick em up. I've had deer at 15 Yards no problem...more concerned about *my* stink than using permethrin. With that many ticks I'd sure be using it
Chiggers too
Ticks climb upon vegetation to wait for a host. I've seen em waist high waiting..so do it all
Spray your clothes and let em dry (don't use on skin!). I do mine every 2nd or 3rd wash.
Heres a thread with some good information on mixing on your own http://oldgobbler.com/Forum/index.php/topic,3417.0.html

I just spray the sleeves, collar, waist, and boot line. And completely spray my hat. I won't hunt Andrews WMA without Permethrin.
We marked 70 acres of trees a few weeks ago......and yes it took a LONG TIME!!!.......which entailed a whole lot of pushing through and tromping over of vegetation. Clothing was treated with permethrin with the result of only a couple of red bugs and a tick or two that managed to fall down the back of a shirt or the like.
Without it......we'd of died!!
Spot on advice. I bought the concentrate (was about $25) several years ago. It's 38%. The stuff you get marketed for the woods from sporting goods places is only .05%. So it's over 75 times stronger than that stuff. Get a spray bottle and mix with A LOT of water. That 32 ounce container of concentrate will last me several lifetimes. Just soak them good and let completely dry. I spray my boots, pants and shirts with a good dousing. It stinks when wet but odorless dry. I got a tick duck hunting once, of all places. I found it under my chin that night. I am guessing when I went into the woods to cut palm fronds I got it there. Those things give me the creeps knowing what they can do to you.
You can also buy it in 8oz and 16oz.
If you have access to a tractor and mower, mow all the roads and trails to your stands on your lease. You won't get any more ticks and won't have to worry about spraying your clothes.
And agitate for burning on the land! Kills ticks and helps everything else.
You are correct........do though have to be sure that a cool season burn or two is not in order to reduce initial fuel loads and take off some of the duff if present.
We were in Etoniah State Forest yesterday doing a land management review with the Florida Forest Service and they were burning a block......with another scheduled for Thursday.
I see someone else who knows what good for them. This stuff works. Drink it everyday. It benefits to keep my allergies from acting up also so I can go to the woods more often.
Someone told me it works on keeping mosquitos away too?
