Garmin Help

Need some Major help with my Garmin unit which is the Echomap 70s sounder/GPS. It is a touch screen unit. The issue is the touch screen has gone out and I am unable to access all of my numbers to download them onto an SD card to transfer to another unit. Garmin tech support says there is nothing they can do to get my numbers back!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm hoping there is someone out there that has experienced the same issue who had some luck getting their number back or who may be able to provide some guidance outside of Garmin tech support.

Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated!!!!! I know from here on out I will have several backups......who would think the unit would do this to you after 8 months!!!!!!!!

Is there any way to hook it up to a computer and access it like a flashdrive?

Unfortunately Garmin is telling me you cannot.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

There's got to be a storage device for those numbers somewhere in there that Garmin should be able to access.

Did they ask you to ship them the unit? Can they not just swap out the touch screen like I've had to do on my kids iphone 3 times.

You would think that would be the case, however the first thing they do when receiving the unit is do a complete reset which deletes everything. Fortunately I was to get the data off of my old Garmin so I didn't lose all of my numbers....just some. Big lesson learned is to make sure you regularly back up your numbers.

Took my bayboat out last week for the first time since last October. Powered on my 541 and it said the base map was lost. Crap, I have 200 waypoints on there and I thought of you. Called Garmin and was told nothing can be done. I was pissed to say the least. While idling around a area of rocks and oyster bars I decided to anchor and mess with the unit. Only thing I came up with was a factory reset. Reluctantly pushed the select button, 5 minutes later it popped back on directly on my location. Then panned out and saw all my spots. I was literally shopping Amazon while it reset for a new unit. Crisis averted for now. I'm backing it up tomorrow just in case.

    Good luck!
