The Reds were not happy yesterday... I caught 5 Trout...one of which I sighted up that was about 24 inches..a nice one.
The snook was about the same size...but I only saw 1 Red...and was not interested in plastic or live mullet. I stayed in the game way too long...It's getting plenty warm and yesterday was my first trip in shorts...cooked the back of my legs like bacon! :grin
Today, I decided I better start getting in the game earlier...more like a summer pattern. I get to the ramp and there are already 6 rigs in!... I head to my first spot and right at the end I pull a decent mid twenties snook. Head to my trout hole since it seems like they only bite when it is right about sunup...First fish is a fat slab of a mangrove snapper ( I have to dive this and see whats down there) ...but within a few minutes I get a fat Trout over 20 inches... nice to see this many decent ones around. Next spot is empty but see some bait and move that way....pull another really nice trout about 22 inches...then another snook.
Well, It's getting warm...really warm since there is no wind. I know the no wind deal won't last..so I start looking for a Red.
It takes about 45 minutes...but....
8:46 and that's #27....
I move to a new spot and within 15 minutes....
This was a fatty...and just shy of 27 inches....and makes it a double slam.
I decided to make a big move and take a look at something else...and did see 1 Red but no luck on that...but a couple casts later I pull the best trout of the day....mid twenties and fat.
I sure hope that tomorrow when the commercial trout season starts...they don't do too much damage to the fishery...We really need to give these fish a break.

The water quality varies widely from day to day and location to location...There is usually some good water at the end of incoming near the inlet. In the rest of the river it is a little decent stuff here and there. That's why you really have to be on the move and watching all the signs first thing in the AM or it will be some valuable wasted time.
I can see both sides of the commercial thing...I like seeing someone willing to work...and it isn't an easy way to turn a buck. Some of these guys have been doing this their whole life and it is all they really know...BUT...Having said that...we are now in a VERY compromised ecosystem...and it is yet one more stressor.

I kept casting away as normal for me and end up getting a small 15 inch red later in the day for the slam. Did get a decent 23 inch snook just before noon and a few smaller ones for a total of 6 along with several mangroves, a couple small jacks and one jumped off ladyfish.
My right arm needs a few days rest! As for the commercial trout season,,I just cringe even thinking of people selling them.
