Greenstick Gear, Anyone Playing?

I'm sure you wicked tuna watchers have thought about greenstick gear.
Anyone here playing with one yet? Reason I ask is one boat has been playing with them Off Hillsborough with fantastic BFT results. I think last night they got 5 BFT at 25#'s each!
Takes some work and practice but the NC boats are reporting a 15 fold increase in catch on the tuna, of course mainly YFT up there.
Wonder how they would do over in the channel?
We are looking at one for about $2k and may pull the trigger and play.

Kidding aside, maybe on the other side it would come into its own as far as YFT, but on this side.....

Friend of Cliffs practicing every day out there, I think they are going to do a Channel run with it this weekend.
Not sure I will try it Doug, but it would be pretty easy to mount on our boats.

Also, be aware that if you don't have a good solid boat to mount it to &/or don't know how to drive with one deployed, it can cause you to capsize, especially if you run a big bird.
Green sticks work great when you are the first guy in the area to use them. After the fish in the area get wise to them, then the stick becomes just another item in your bag of tricks.
From what I have seen, kites & green sticks are about neck & neck in terms of effectiveness. I think that the next natural evolution in that general style of tactic would be the use of a drone in place of a kite.

Greenstick has been used commercially for YFT from NC north for many years now.
If you use the gear like an outrigger where the bait is suspended from the line by means of an outrigger clip so the fish is fought with the rod and reel, it is perfectly legal for recreational fisherman.
