  There are spoil islands off the barge canal that have good campsites, and there are many islands north of the Rt 40 ramp where you can camp. You just have to find one that's unoccupied and without no trespassing signs. Some islands off the barge canal are bird sanctuaries so you can't camp on them. Look for the signs. The spoil island just south of the 40 channel marker on the barge canal has a nice campsite that might be suitable if not already occupied.
  
  The problem with north of the ramp is that you need to know where you're going to avoid hitting rocks and oyster bars. It's possible in a 25' bay boat on all but low tide, but not recommended without good local knowledge.

  Shell Island at the mouth of Crystal River is good and no problem with your boat.

  I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.
