I posted this before but Moderator Deep moved it to General I guess because I mistakenly put Thread instead of Reports?? so am posting again with Reports and will hopefully stay in reports section where it has been for almost ten years.

I just tried to look up the buoy data to see how much colder the water temps dropped after last night but the entire Everglades area is off line. Does anyone have a report? I'd like to get out again on Tuesday if conditions are decent. Thanks.
Dons ran out of shrimp early, had to get bait at the old jacks and the ramps were full of trucks and trailers. All the campgrounds were also full.

The first pic is Grant, the second Alan -we caught three slot sized reds that day, keeping two for the table as well as a trout or two....
The very next I fished fly anglers and we found lots of nice reds and some big snook - all in very shallow clear waters... Notice I didn't say catch... A cold front had passed through the night before and the fish all had lockjaw - refusing everything we tossed at them. It was a pretty frustrating day for all concerned since we had shots at around 100 reds that just weren't having any....The snook we found were all slot or above slot in size and just as spooky.... I spent the day poling and watching fish that clearly were not looking to eat anything at all. This was one of those days when I went home talking to myself.... With the next day off it was back to the tying bench for some answers...
A few days later I was back on the water with visiting anglers Jay Dail and his partner Seth. They were down for four days with their boat so I left my skiff home and spent the day showing them some basic routes across Whitewater and Oyster Bays and the southern route up into the Little Shark river. Every year I get to fish with first timers that book me for a day then spend a few days on their own learning the area....We found a few fish along the way - and were quite surprised to find small barracuda in lots of places where I normally never see them at all (don't have a clue as to why - just one of those things the 'Glades surprises you with....). After starting the day off with a nice snook.... Seth's first one....

We made a point of checking out a few of the places where the big tarpon first hang out in Whitewater Bay... spot after spot - no tarpon.... We covered lots of ground that day in a very nice Pathfinder (I was spoiled - since I don't have a trolling motor on my old Maverick...) but never found the first hint of a tarpon. Now, for the good news... they called me late yesterday to report that the big tarpon had showed up in good numbers (yippee...). They also found big trout and snook up to 36" while also jumping off a tarpon well over 100lbs so maybe my coaching wasn't for nothing... I also got a second call yesterday that the big fish were in the center of Whitewater from another angler who battled one for 20 minutes on a lure, so it looks like we're in business finally....
The next two months will just keep getting better as water temps keep warming.... The only thing that will slow down the fishing will be any sudden temperature drops...
Be a hero.... Take a kid fishing!

Still waiting on the boat but had a buddy invite me to fish.
We headed down to the park at 530am forgetting about the new time this morning. We sat around for about 20 minutes before the sun started to gleam in the sky. Made our way out into Whitewater Bay but first stopped in **** Bay to see if any tarpon where around. They weren't.
We continued to make our way west and decided, since we had a falling tide all morning, to fish a couple river mouths. Picked up this slot Red with a DOA Terror-Eyez.
Unfortunately, the wind picked up pretty bad and we decided to start making our way back to the ramp, through White Water, and fish spots on the way. We hit one small island that had good current, clear water, and some bait life and snagged this little snook.
Once we released him, I told my buddy that I all I needed was a Trout for the Slam. He knew just where to go.
I asked him if he knew a Tarpon spot but at that point, I was just pushing it!
