Where to go in Haulover?

I am new to shrimping and my family has decided to try to go out Christmas night, I am familiar with haulover from fishing, but I have never been shrimping. Where in the canal should I be, I have heard to be right under the bridge, but isnt the water too deep there, I would think that one of the ends would be better where it gets shallow.

Also high tide is just after 7pm, what time should I start? an hour before, 2 hours?

I would try the nw mouth of the canal since the current will be a positive flow all night. The best place to shrimp is where no one is at. make sure to let us know.

How do you set up led lights when the current is ripping? To keep them for floating up. Just add more weight? I'm used to shrimping areas with lighter current.

I'm old school and use Q-Beam lights. StarfireII just hang over the side and illuminate the surface water. When the water is ripping or loaded with grass they are the best way to go. LED seem to work in open areas like the railroad causeway but can be a pain when your neighbor wants to catch that large red or black drum swimming over the lights. Once hes hooked up he will tangle into all those leds. I still skunk those fishing the leds and are a less hassle to deal with.
