Jupiter 11/22: Great Mahi bite for my birthday

My sister & her husband came over from Tampa with another couple to visit for my birthday and go fishing. Given the weather we've been having, I wasn't sure we'd be able to pull it off; but, Saturday morning ended up being a perfect day to fish. A little bumpy getting out, 2-3' with some 3-4', which in reality is perfect fishing conditions, but a little bumpy for land lubbers.

Cleared the inlet around 7:30 and cruised out to 450' and all we found was scattered weed everywhere. We tried slow bumping live bait and trolling, but all we found was fouled hooks. By 11:00, we were north of the Loran tower (still not much of a current) and I decided to run back to the ledge off the pier looking for Kings or anything that might bite. Just as we got east of the inlet, we found a great weed line in 200' that was void of any other boats.

We threw out the Blue Runners and bam, fish on. We caught 4 nice size Mahi and only kept 2. They're not big fish eaters - they just wanted the experience. We saw the rains building over Jupiter and cleared the inlet around 12:30, home by 1:30. Tom had brought a full tenderloin filet (which is a big reason we didn't need much fish) which we cooked on the Weber, drank beer & wine and watched football.

Not a bad birthday!
