Went out in Boca with our CFO this weekend on his Fresh 36 Yellowfin properly named "Niche". Never been a Yellowfin guy but this one pretty much sets the standard for any Yellowfin that will ever be made... Now that we got that out of the way...
The conditions were very short of 'chamber of commerce', so we expected some action. We did get some action, just not what we expected. Most of it happened inside 150 ft. Bait everywhere, frigates all over, hoards of bullet bonita.. just goood S**t from every angle.
We expected a few mahis on the kite but only ended up with two. We expected kings, got those, but also got bit off ALL day, crazy bite offs too, not just normal ones. Like "Where did my 8 ft. of my expensive A** fluro go..?" kind of bite offs. We had one window shopping sailfish on the kite but that was it for pelagics. Much less than we were expecting.
On the flip side of the coin, the bottom bite was ON FIRE. We had a few really nice muttons, a few decent ones, and a FLAG yellowtail (a very nice surprise). We didnt fish it that hard, but when we did it was nuts. I got 2 BACK TO BACK 25 inch muttons.
No pics from this trip, but I did post a video of a bunch of cool stuff we've been piling up here and there. Seriously awesome mahi clip in here!

I am with you on the cut offs being annoying. Everyone always says they are rat kings but every now it's a wahoo when those bullet Bonita are around.

If its windy, sporty/wet, or chilly they help a lot. They usually come off as the morning progresses, but 70 degrees is freezing to me so they come in handy quite often. They don't get much use in the summer though.

Live baits hands down for us. Nothing like going out there with blacked out wells and making the water boil. I will say though, getting a big blackfin bite on the troll sure does get your blood pumping!:grin
