Fishing trip to Florida Keys in January. Need Help and Suggestions
I'm taking my dad on a fishing trip to the Florida Keys the first week of January. We will be renting a 23' Center Console out of Marathon, FL. Both of us have experience saltwater fishing, but mostly from piers, bridges and a few charters. If anyone can provide any suggestions on places to fish, specific fish to target, lures to use, etc.. it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I picked up two trolling rods and reels to do some trolling from the boat. I was looking at using rigged Ballyhoo, but wanted to know if we need to go all the way out to one of the humps or if we can troll Ballyhoo around the reefs and have success? Another thing I read is that in January the Mackeral fishing is good. Any suggestions on what and how to troll for that? Thanks for your help!
