I took my son out today and we launched the canoe at Pepper Park (1st time there). We saw mullet jumping so we paddled to a mangrove shore line where I caught two small snook - under 15 inches. We saw some bait being hit in the center area of the mangroves and a quick cast revealed a small jack. We came across some oyster beds near a mangrove island and my son wanted to catch some snapper, which he did. The snapper were all on the small side but he was having fun using up the shrimp that I bought. I had a hard pull on the line which turned out to be a small goliath grouper, it was dark in color with yellowish bands. I never caught one before so i am guessing on this one. We went and had lunch and used the rest of the shrimp around the jetty rocks were he teased all the little reef fish and landed a small snapper. We had fun and ended my 0 for 4 streak.

Yea, maybe FWC should start thinking about opening up a season for them again. I think that they may have recovered to the point where they are now crowding out other species.
It sounds like it was a fun day on the water.
