So I decided to head down to grant yesterday and got there around 11 am. As Im sitting on the shoreline tying on a few leaders I see a noticeable shift in the winds. Within five minutes it goes from Northwest to northeast and now Im on the wrong side of the river. Im in a kayak so getting railed by 15-20 mph wind in whitecaps is not my ideal way to fish. Im sitting there listening to the wind whistle through the trees and said screwit Ill go to jungle trail at least I might be able to get out of the wind.
I show up 40 minutes later and get to my launch area only to find NINE freaking cars there. Normally that place is empty, but I guess everyone in the county had the same thought. Nine cars, two of them with trailers, one of them with a rack for about 6 or 8 kayaks. Two guys unloading had the report of "god Im tired, covered a lot of water today, caught a rat red and a small trout". Not encouraging for me... so I launch anyways, fish about two hours finally I just realize that today isnt my day. Right before I got back to the car I saw one area with a heavy current coming through due to the wind and I decided to try something odd and threw a skitterwalk into the 8" chop. I missed two and caught one trout about 13 inches. At least the skunk stayed home... nothing really biting during my time on the water though, fished with pigfish, redfish magic, skitterwalk and mirrolure.
