  Sounds like your on the right track. I have had good results with black and purple bunny flies. I don't think Cobia are picky, just lead them a bit and tic it fast.

  Ditto to "just about anything works." The key is that your best shot will be your first shot. On subsequent casts, you might see a fish follow the fly with no take. More fish might create a sense of competition for the fly. I like white poppers on a 3-4/0 hook, depending on the size of the fish. Probably today you can also get by with a 2/0 because there are a lot more smaller fish.
