Offshore & Deep Drop Marathon 1-20-15 Wahoo, mahi and snowy grouper
Great trip yesterday with KCB friends John Tyson, aka forum FlBlueRunner, Harry Rix and Jody Wojciechowski. We started with high speed wahoo trolling and did not have a hit. Tide was not optimal. We then worked our way out to deeper water to try deep dropping. Along the way we set out a dolphin spread of four Billy Baits. Luckily I put out one that had some wire on it as it got slammed by a nice wahoo. Others suggested at hookup that it was just a skipjack tuna but this fish was pulling some serious drag and did not want to come in. Finally getting it closer Harry yelled from the upper helm that it was a good wahoo. Bingo! The hoo took a blue/fusia Billy Bait. We later got into a broken weedline and picked three decent dolphin. The snowy grouper was taken in about 700' on squid. We marked quite a lot of fish on the bottom but did not have any other hook-ups. Perhaps it was small bait.
Happiness is the journey, not the destination.
