POI idle speed zone how long does it take to get to the bay and a normal speed zone

We normally launch out of Goodland, Marco or Estero Bay but we decided to try POI this weekend to be a little closer to the backcountry. Since it's been about 4 or 5 years since the last time I launched out of POI and I can't remember approx how long it takes to get out of the idle speed zone. My wife is worried as we will have the kids with us (10 yo & 6 yo) and she thinks it around 30 min or more and that the kids will be bored if we go out of POI, I was thinking it 15 min or so from what I can remember.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Bout 20 minutes.
It works well sometimes cause you've got time to get the Kids settled in and life vests ect. on plus you can rig the rods put stuff away before you get on plane and have everybody flyin around.

Yea I had that happen years ago when we kept our old boat back behind the Naples airport at Naples Marina. There was a H-U-G-E slow and then idle zone going through Naples Bay. Going in one day we didn't beat the storms and the sky turned black and opened up around us after a few I said screw it I'm not going to get struck by lightning and killed over an idle speed, so I sped up when I notice a Naples Police boat I figured if I was going to get a ticket that was fine but it was going to have to be back at the dock and under cover, he ended up passing me.

    Thanks for the info.

Rig a rod or 2 with shallow lipped divers or spoons when idling down (or up) the canal - you won't be bored at all.
