looking to kayak fish the St. Johns river.

Hey every body! I'm new to Orlando and was considering taking my yak to the St. Johns River near lake Monroe to spend a day on the water... unless I would be wasting my time. Like I said, I'm new here. I have read that there are largemouth, stripers, in there and I happened to be at Blue Spring State Park the other day and saw snook, juvenile tarpon, and a couple stripers while watching the manatees... i wasn't sure if the time of year was right to make for a worth while trip? I have some light gear and heavy. I mainly fish for largemouth with artificial baits. Any advice on this area for spices and techniques would be appreciated. Thanks and Tight Lines!
