    Square ones do stack better.
    I have never seen live bones, but I know that they are often used by rich people to decorate the interior.

    Also are better as hand baggages.
    When I came back from Eleuthera a lady has brought with her a big standard (round) watermelon and she had some trouble to stack it into overhead (the watermelon has rolled all the flight time).
