    macro is pretty cool stuff....
    I have a 50mm and a 100mm...
    problem with shooting insects is they rarely allow you to get "in their face"...
    i learned a trick from an old poster to this forum not long after it started...

    he said use a long tele-zoom...you don't spook your target and you can get similar bokeh...
    so i use a 70-300mm and often a flash to get what i want...
    if it's a static image, a macro lens on a tripod is the way to go....

    The pics I posted on the insect thread of the spider catching the bee and the skipper were taken with my 300 f4 as Mac suggested.
