Ponce: King of the Inlet

Left the dock at earlythirty and headed east / northeast. Had a wonderful ride out - until we got there. We were a bit north of the Steeples. Found good water temp break on the way out - 74 to 76 inside of a mile - ran past it looking for anything like a defined rip... scattered weeds made it almost unfishable.

Around 180 or so we started to get a decent line forming despite heavy seas.

I am getting pictures - but the total count was 9 for 13 on mahi to 15.6#, 1 for 3 on sailfish to 50 or so pounds and a blackfin. Our deep bait got hit for a second - but never stayed buttoned. That could have been the hoo that we really needed.

We're sitting mid pack right now due to our lack of hoo and mid size mahi. We took 3rd in the Halifax tourney with a 28.6# cow a couple of weeks ago - that would have put us on the board for this one - but, as they say, you can't pick the size of the fish.

All in all - we're happy with our performance for leg I. Many boats didn't even catch (like 22 out of 64) I think. We put a bunch of fish onboard - they just needed to be bigger.

We are hoping for a stonger performance on leg II - the mahi leg.
