Islamorada deep dropping. Groupers and queen snapper 1-28

What does a guy do with his first day off after 20 days straight out on the water in every condition imaginable? Usually it's time to take a nap, but the weather was so nice I couldn't resist taking my 8 year old son and my dad out for some deep dropping after school was over for my boy. We headed out in beautiful conditions too good to pass up and where rewarded with some awesome fishing.:fishing The first drop started off slow, but I could see the current and drift where perfect and soon enough they started biting. We started off in the 400 to 550 depths and caught a nice mix of blueline tiles, some nice yellow edge grouper, vermillion snapper and porgies. After a while I decided to head out deeper and we picked away at a few more tiles, a snowy, and this beautiful queen snapper. We didn't have much time out deep and I wanted to do some wahoo trolling so we left them biting and headed in. We didn't catch a wahoo that afternoon, but we have had several nice ones like this the last few weeks. It was a truly awesome day on the water spending time with my son and dad.:)

Mommas not happy, I forgot a change of clothes. Say bye bye to that set of school clothes.

Mondays Wahoo

I'm also throwing in this picture of a sickle pomfrett we caught on sunday

That's awesome! Gotta love those conditions. You guys have some fun out there, I'm pretty jealous. Nothing like enjoying it with your boy and your dad. That time is priceless! Thanks for sharing.

Great fish! Tell us about the Pomfrett! How deep? Good to eat? What was in his stomach? :huh

The Pomfrett was caught in 1,600 feet of water on the bottom while we where swordfishing. It didn't have anything left in his stomach. The meat looked good, especially up in the shoulders. It was white and firm. That fish had a really weird ribcage with thick bones about a 1/2 inch wide. Problably in order to take all the pressure down in that depth. We actually caught another one yesterday, also in 1,600'. Deep dropping has also been good the rest of this week. Here are a few pictures of more queens, tiles, and grouper.

Apparently the Pomfret are good to eat. Did you try them?

Nice job, really good pics and variety. I'm with testerman I would think a few fish blood stains would be acceptable on school clothes in the keys!
