Nassau then headed south

palmettorespalmettores Posts: 86 Deckhand
Land in Nassau Friday, a few days at the new Albany marina, then head south for a week. Hopefully end up in Exuma. Will be prepared for inshore and offshore.

Any reports or suggestions? Assume wahoo are consistent targets, maybe some mahi or tuna to be found?

always take a spinner with you loaded and ready with anything from the rubber jigs with the weight and hook in them or a buck tail type jig and a spinner with at least a 50lb leader.. you can buy some good j hooks like 5 - 7/0 s and some 3 - 5/0 mutu light wire circle hooks and smile all day long. inshore and offshore .. if you have not been google it and make sure you know your way out the backside of nassau and across the yellow bank into Highbourn cay marina if you get good weather you can cross and settle in good and go right out fishing.. try to fish the tide and current over there you don't have to go far! keep a spinner ready for mahi / dinners .. you can order your dinner through the vhf and they cook great food brought to your boat or picnic table.. I believe they have some cottages now also.. that area is cool because you can play weather and inshore bank run vs offshore .. take your time and fish / goof off from one place or another.. keep your dolphin and tuna bellies to use offshore and bottom fish.. feed the big black grouper at highbourn.. walk out with the sharks at the beach while people are not feeding them..
island hop down south and see Compass, Sampson, Staniel and others.. feed the pigs..

like teddy said highborne is worth a stop, the food was great, the marina has bait and tackle and the cleaning table is alive with all kinds
    of fish.

Sounds and looks like fun to me. Think there are tuna around or too early?

there is always tuna in the sound you just have to find them.. put all your fish chunks and extra bait scraps in red solo cups and chum if you find fish.. watch the depth finder for marks down to 350' if you find birds.. look at your charts for underwater points and ridges and fish them

Just to close the loop on this thread, weather was great last week. Caught wahoo and mahi on the Wall and further south on the ledge in Exuma Sound. Found some tuna the last eve up near Nassau. I'd like to be back down in a month or two when it really heats up.
