Hey everyone,
I took my two boys out last monday, this time the rental boat did not break down and now that I have been there once, I kind of had a better idea where to fish, so I was able to put the boys on fish all day long, which is what this is all about anyways right? There were a lot of firsts out there today for the boys (because this is their second time going inshore) We left out of the river which is just west of the long bridge leading to the island (forgot the name sorry) and had a fun early morning of jacks and mangos:
and
First Jack Crevalle:
Then, because it was a strong outgoing tide, we went out to hit up some of the small mangrove islands looking for lazy fish in the eddys.. lol
we were rewarded with some more awesome firsts:
First Black drum:
There was what I thought was a first gag grouper, turns out it was a goliath.. around 20lbs, so. yeah. not posting that photo, but hey, was handled gently and put back in the water super quickly lol, hey, I suck at grouper ID, but I will never make that mistake again! I caught some snook at this spot all around 18-22 inches and about 25-30 catfish as well as assorted mangrove snappers and small jacks. as the day progress we moved on as the tide was starting to change and hit a couple mangrove shorelines trying to get the boys on some snook, first cast for my oldest and bingo... first snook:
That was it for snook that day, but we were able to get my oldest his first red, and not a bad one at that:
I wish I could have taken more photos, but I barely even got to fish that day, it was one of those awesome days that I was just too busy helping and teaching the boys to get all the fish off and how to bait properly! Also, we used live shrimp with a split shot or a troll rite jig with a piece of mullet for bait, that's it. Thanks guys and thanks for the informative posts here, reading them really helps!
Thanks,
Charles
