I'm coastal now, hot as heck and the dog flies are awful. Last two days, calm mornings and very strong SW winds all afternoon
and did I mention the dog flies?
Man is it HOT!!! Did someone say DOG FLIES? If not DOG FLIES:willynilly:willynilly:willynilly.
Did you know that is where Dog Island got it's name? DOG FLIES are the Devil. :devil
SW wind blew most of last night and the Franklin County bug sprayer came down Alligator Drive last evening, fewer Devil flies this morning, but still here and still hot.
I would at least wait until Sept 16th when the Gag Grouper season opens back up.
“Dog Fly” Facts
Fly season in the Florida panhandle is generally from August through October.
The flies are “stable flies” or “dog flies.” They lay their eggs in the farm country of Alabama on manure or rotting vegetation such as might be found in a farm environment. Apparently, winds bring them south to the panhandle beaches.
The flies are blood suckers, and prefer the blood of cows and pigs, but clearly do not turn away from humans when available.
They drove the neighbors dogs inside, they couldn't go out without being covered with them. Been dog fly bit plenty of times wellout of sight of land in September. Usually by October the're mostly gone, when fronts from the NW move through they bring 'em we had some freaky NW winds over the last few weeks to push them here early.
I'll have my MIL, BIL, SIL, and nephew as well as she-who-must-be-obeyed along for the trip. I hope I can get on the water and catch SOMETHING. Maybe we can hit St. Marks and try to find some scallops one day.
If it's doable, I'll put the boys on some seabass and grunts so they can stretch a string.

Do you trailer over from Carrabelle to St Marks, or just drive the boat?
Well, I missed the morning thread, so top of the day to you all.. We have a few showers in the area.
I mentioned Atlantic disturbance Katina earlier, but it appears, it will track generally on the course of Irene or more easterly in the vicinity of Bermuda. No hurricane for the Gulf next week is a good thing, but a look at the forecast leads one to believe our area might be less than user friendly over LD, anyway. 'Hope it doesn't mess up anyone's plans, but I will say we need the rain, terribly.
If you need anything while y'all are down here, Brad..give me a shout. :thumbsup

Lose sight of land, lose the dog flies.:Rockon
Probably traveled with you. Drive faster.

I bet he trailers at 10-12 mpg rather than boating at 1-2 mpg.

Thanks Quinn. Hope we see some if y'all there.
It's a nice ride out of Panacea and much closer to get back to the trailer if the winds and seas get snotty.
