  This years August has been one of the best!!! From Broward -North. Wahoo being caught everyday even from kayaks. You should have trolled North.

  Thanks for the report!!! We tried last weekend and got the big goose egg as well...i'm staying local this weekend...hoping to catch a few decent fish over the next couple days!!! Good to see you back posting...you fishing this weekend???

  Flats - That was first thought, to troll North (hindsight is 20/20, right?) I prefer to fish with the current vs. pulling hard against it, although there was very little if not south current Saturday out front. I just felt like at 15 kts we'd be passed Haulover in no time, and in my opinion, the water from there to PE is a dead zone most of the time, but I have caught some of my biggest hoo's between the Miami Sea Buoy and Haulover. Soooo, you're right. Should've tried North first. Next time.

Was supposed to fly to Nassau and stay for two nights before flying the boss up to New Jersey Monday, but the Nassau portion just canceled, so Sat. is looking better! You headed out?

  august is the worse for surface fishing IMHO. for that reason, i started bottom fishing and now do it almost exclusively starting in july until the first cold front comes through.

  Try some vertical jigging during august, the fish are usually deeper.

  I truly believe that if you want fish in August, you're basically limited to bottom fishing. I've never been too much of a bottom fisherman. I'll put a deep rod down while fishing and occasionally get a mutton or grouper or random other, but sitting still in the August heat of South Florida cranking up bottom dwellers is not my bag. Night time is a different story.

  very true regarding the heat. however, july and august have been windy (until recently) and therefore it was not too hot. also, you can drift over the reef to bottom fish and this might help the baking in the sun.

  Yea man thats me...it has been awhile!!! You still running the contender??? I'm gonna try and fish tomm eve and maybe sunday morning, like you i have young un's and they take up all my time these days. I have 3 girls...so unless princesses are involved its tough to get them on the water! LOL
  
  I agree with everybody on august being a tough month for surface fishing....but like Rafael said, the bottom bite can be sick with a lil know how!!!

  We are going to wet some lines this weekend. The wife and I are with out kids so it is bluewater time for us. The kids hate trolling so we have to do it when we can. I will post a report and hopefully a good one.

  Sounds great! Gotta love those times on the water as just a 'couple'. Good times. If you try the wahoo thing, check the tides. Bite tends to be more consistent on the outgoing tide. If that happens to coincide with first light of the day (early morning sun), even better.

  Not sure if that matters as much off Elliot Key. The wife wants to catch a wahoo bad by the way so we will try for sure.

  For Wahoo the Moon plays a big roll right around the full moon Wahoo is more active. All the big catches up north were around the full moon.
