Interesting. I'm surprised the media had them in the first place!

Police Scanners Turned Off At Midnight
Change Will Affect Media's Coverage Of Police-Related Breaking News

POSTED: Wednesday, August 31, 2011
UPDATED: 12:24 pm EDT August 31, 2011

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Starting at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, newsrooms in Jacksonville will have a much more difficult time reporting on crimes and other incidents in River City neighborhoods.

That's because the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is taking away police scanners that the media currently lease from the Sheriff's Office.

Police scanners are how news outlets learn about many police-related breaking news stories.

JSO has said certain police communication should not be heard by the media. It has also cited budget, safety and legal concerns.

At midnight, the Sheriff's Office will turn off the scanners and take them back Thursday.

But how are we supposed to find out about cops boinking illegals over the hood of their cruiser?

I wonder if Farah and Farah will have to return theirs? Have they already put GPS devices on all the ambulances?

Uh, ok. You can pickup a police scanner for a hundro, and a good one for a couple bills. Hell, I've got a couple of scanner apps on my iPhone that allow me to listen to a bunch of different police, fire, and ems departments, as well as all kinds of other stuff like airports, aviation clubs, and all kinds of stuff.
