Doc and I have had great luck over the past few days on the grouper. Today we decided to mix it up a bit and head out without any bait and jig up our fish. We started a bit over 40' after bumpy ride out. On the 1st drop I picked up a 22" red grouper on a 10" white fluke on a 3 oz jig head no bait. That bnit e only lasted a short period with Doc landing a couple more reds. While the bite was off we looked around for some new bottom as we watch a dozen frigate birds and lots of terns diving on huge schools of bay anchovies. As we watch we saw a small mahi swim by and several other USP (unidentified slashing pelagics) houndfish, kingfish and macks we think. We settled into a another area and the bite picked back up. Doc jigged up a grunt so I tossed it on a bait rig and allowed to sit in a rod holder stupid style. Having that bait in the water seemed to get the bite going again on the jigs. We drifted around a few areas and finished our limit by 1:15. We caught a couple on the stupid rig with grunt and they were nailing the jigs as well. We only kept grouper over 22" today with about half up to 25" The seas slicked off right as we got out there but maintained a wide roll all day. Another great day on the grouper with Doc!

I'm telling you...Doc has that jigging down to an art (science?).

Others find most things in life to be challenging.
I guess you're just one of the lucky ones. :wink
I think he means you don't need an stimulus to do what you do...or don't do.

He still over complicates everything.
Hang a big ole hunk a meat near the bottom and PRESTO grouper.

I like that you guys tried the artificial method. Maybe I'm lazy or maybe it's the bass fisherman still inside of me that I can't repress, but I really hate dealing with bait. It's hard to keep alive. It stinks. It never stays on the hook. I feel like I spend more time baiting than fishing. So it's cool to see some offshore fishing where no bait is necessary. Just goes to show you that there are a million ways to successfully catch a fish.
Hey Lee I'm released with no restrictions.
I think it's time to take Kyle out, with me, and gang up on him. If nothing else you won't have to listen to just him all day. :grin
