Must have been the hair since you cannot see my face.
I was there to document how thorough the set- up was to keep things as equal as possible for a fair test. My article will be out soon about filming the challenge.

The Evinrude had a quieter idle than the Merc due to the Merc exhaust was directed downward to the water and caused a splashing sound. You can see that in the video as they are preparing the straps for the tug-of-war.
For the last 10 years the E-TECs are close to the 4-strokes for quietness at idle and have a more pleasing tone at high speeds, along with being quieter than some 4- strokes.
With either the E-TEC or a newer 4-stroke, you can have a normal conversation at cruising speeds.

How come you don't do a comparison of the Etec 150HO vrs. the Mercury 150 ProXS ?:funnypost Apples to Apples
Marketing doesn't care about 2 stroke vs 2 stroke.
My opinion based on personal experience with the 115's is the proxs has the etec beat slightly on everything except low end torque, noise and looks (Merc needs a new designer, those things look like crap).

Of course marketing doesn't care because they would get it handed to them by Merc in the 2 stroke vs 2 stroke! Just saying and i owned both a 115 & a 175 Pro XS along with a 150 HO and there is no comparison the Merc is better!:rotflmao
