Punta Gorda Kayak Questions

My sister just moved to Punta Gorda and I'm going to bring my kayak down this weekend. After doing some research, I will be concentrating on the area between the canals north of Ponce De Leon park boat ramp and south to Alligator Creek. We don't have many snook around up here after 2009-2010, and that's what I would like to catch.

What kind of depths can I expect in this area. It looks fairly shallow around the shorline, but the creeks look deeper. Will a 5 ft stake out pole be enough or will I need my anchor?

Are the canals around the W. Marion Ave. area worth fishing for Jacks or anything if I have an hour or so to get away after dinner?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Steve
You can't catch fish if you don't go fishing.

Steve - it's anyone's guess what you'll catch in those PGI canals. Jacks, snook, tarpon, ladyfish, trout, stingrays. Get in there and start wetting some line and you're sure to get some exercise. Good luck!

Thanks for the info on the canals. I was hoping that would be the case.
